Under-pressure Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson wants public backing and says he should be evaluated on his performance not age. The 33-year-old claims his recent mistakes in international matches have got nothing to do with his longevity.

The former Blackpool goalkeeper told Ghanasoccernet, he determined to prove his critics wrong. “I have suffered criticisms throughout my career and in all instances I have proven my doubters wrong,” Kingson told Ghanasoccernet.com

“Therefore, I think it is about time my critics stood back and realize my holistic contribution to the national team which should lead to more encouragements and not trying to get me out of the team.’’

The fans are still unrepentant and continuously jeered when he spills a ball or commits a blunder at the team’s training sessions ahead of the double header against Swaziland and Brazil.

Kingson, who captained Ghana to win silver at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, says his national team commitment level can never be questioned. “I have got nothing to lose if I leave the national team today because I have achieved all there is to, something no one in the history of Ghana football can rival,” he said.

“I may be old but my performance should always be the yardstick by which I should be measured,” he added.
