Winger Andre Ayew and goalkeeper Richard Kingson have been dropped for Ghana’s squad to face Sudan next week, Ghanasoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Ayew has been one of the Black Stars’ key players in over the past two years but the Marseille player is only returning from a groin and ankle injuries.

With Ghana facing a gruelling encounter in Khartoum on 8 October, throwing him at the deep end could spark fresh injury worries for the youngster.

Instead the meticulous Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic has opted for players who can fight for the entire duration of the game with speed without injury fears. As a result, speedster Quincy Owusu-Abeyie returns to the team after a one-year absence as the coach adds pacy players to the team.

Norway-based young midfielder Abu Mohammed, who is also tough, gets the chance to impress the Serbian coach after his first invite for the aborted Ghana-Nigeria friendly few weeks ago.

His Stromgedset team-mate goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has been rewarded for his excellent showing in the recent Brazil friendly and league matches.

True to his warning to inactive players, Stevanovic axed Kingson who has been without a club since being released Blackpool four months ago. U23 goalkeeper Daniel Adjei returns to the fold to take Kingson’s place after impressing at the All African Games in Mozambique this month.

This move to meant to test the shot-stopper while creating competition in the goalkeeping department which had been dominated by Kingson. Captain John Mensah returns to the side after missing the two matches against Swaziland and Brazil this month. He has recovered from a thigh injury and has made some appearances for his club Lyon.

He will partner tough stopper Isaac Vorsah in the centre of defence while key players like John Pantsil and Daniel Opare have been invited.

Ukraine-based duo of Derek Boateng and Samuel Inkoom have confirmed receiving their invites as well as the Udinese duo of Emmanuel ‘Nika Nika’ Agyemang-Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah.

Lead striker Asamoah Gyan has also confirmed his trip to Kenya for the camp ahead of the match in Sudan and Bristol City utility player Albert Adomah has also been invited.

Sulley Muntari and others are said to be in the team but they are yet to confirm to GHANAsoccernet.com about their invites. The squad for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Khartoum is dominated by players who excelled in the recent friendly against Brazil.

Ghana must secure a draw in the game to be played in the hot afternoon weather of Khartoum to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
