Giants Accra Hearts of Oak kept their title ambitions on course after securing a narrow 1-0 win against ten-man Wassaman United on Sunday night in Sekondi.

Douglas Nkrumah slotted home a penalty kick on three minutes after striker Mahatma Otoo was fouled inside the box by the Wassaman goalkeeper Michael Tetteh.

The goal was a reward for a brilliant start from the ‘Phobians as they went on to express dominance over the host in all departments of the game.

With Otoo threatening the Wassaman goal area with supplies from Douglas Nkrumah and Bobbie-Ansah, the home team needed some sort of gallantry from their goalkeeper to save them from conceding more goals.

The few times Herbert Addo’s men showed any signs of danger, Godwin Osei Bonsu met them with great renaissance.

There were spot of controversies when Wassaman complained of penalty calls which were rejected by referee Charles Nii Tagoe.

Centre man Tagoe was the match of the match when he also what looked like a clear penalty appeal from Hearts of Oak deep into the second half before sending Emmanuel Eyison off for misconduct.

Hearts are snapping at the heels of leaders and arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on ten points each but less goal difference.
