Football legend Mohammed Polo has denied reports that he said no Ghanaian coach is capable of managing the egos of Black Stars players.

Polo, a former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak winger, says he was misquoted after an interview with an Accra based radio station – Happy FM – which created the impression that he had discredited the competence of local coaches.

The GFA will appoint a new Head Coach as the replacement of sacked Goran Stevanovic after the proposed head-hunting process with many connoisseurs l coach can urging the football association to hand over the helm to a local tactician. And Polo, himself now a coach with his own football academy, made the headlines this week for apparently saying no local helmsman can do the job.

But the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner has responded by telling PRAVDA SPORTS 93.5 FM in Accra that local coaches have the credentials to manage the Black Stars players but they need to be firm. He believes he can easily manage the egos of these Black Stars players if handed the job.

He told PRAVDA SPORTS 93.5 FM: “I think I was misquoted. You know I have been talking for local coaches, being a local coach myself. Anybody who is in contention must know that he is there for a business and must be able to manage the egos of the Black Stars players.

“He should not falter so that there will be continuity with the selection of Ghanaian coaches for the job. He has to select those who will assist him.

“Nobody should dictate to him and this is the type of coach we are looking for. I am part of these coaches and I can manage the egos of the Black Stars players. No problem with that.
