A Former Captain of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, Emmanuel Quarshie has been abandoned by the football fraternity and lies in a critical condition battling a debilitating disease.

Speaking in an interview with Rok Fm and Peace Fm's Western Regional sports correspondent Kwaku Tagoe on Peace Power Sports, Auntie B, wife of the former skipper of the Libya 1982 African Nations Cup winning team said her husband has been suffering from a life threatening throat cancer (Laryngeal cancer) disease for over a year now, but no one has bothered to enquire about the health of her husband.

According to her, her husband has lost his voice and was even finding it difficult to take his meals.

Asked her much is needed to treat the husband, Auntie B said she cannot tell but only knows that it has to be through a surgical procedure.

She appealed to the GFA, generous individuals and the entire nation to come to the aid of the former skipper of the Senior National Team before the worst happens.

"...so far, we have spent about 150m cedis (Gh15,000.00) on him in a bid to treat him...the family's financial coffers is dry," she said amidst sobs.

Emmanuel Quarshie previously worked as head coach of Berekum Arsenals and led Ebusua Dwarfs to secure qualification to the Premier League two seasons ago.

He also coached Wa All Stars and BA Stars.

Ghana last won the continental trophy in Tripoli in 1982 with a lineup that included goalkeeper Owusu Mensah, Albert Asaase, George Alhassan, Kofi Badu, Abedi Pele, Emmanuel Quarshie (Captain), Offei Ansah, Hesse Odamtten, Samuel Opoku Nti, Samson Lamptey aka ‘Gaddafi’ in Ghanaian football circles.
