The national U-17 women�s soccer team the Black Maidens have qualified for the next stage of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women�s World Cup in Azerbaijan by beating their Japanese counterparts by a lone goal to nil.
Sherifatu Sumaila scored in the 53rd minute to give the maidens the only goal of the game after the Japan keeper failed to grab low shot.
The Japanese dominated both halves of the game with their explicit passes and touches.
Thus the Black Maidens become the first African side to play in the semi-finals of this competition.
The maidens will play France in the semi �finals on Tuesday the 9th of October in Baku.
France beat Nigeria five (5) goals to three (3) in a penalty shoot-out in the first quarter-final match on Thursday.
