Fulham player Emmanuel Frimpong has expressed his delight for his call up into the senior national team after several years.
The 21-year-old Fulham player told sports journalists after his first ever training with the senior national team that, he was phoned by Ghanas head coach just after FIFA had cleared his nationality switch.
I was really happy when called. The coach (Kwesi Appiah) called to confirm that FIFA had accepted my nationality switch so he will need my services against Sudan in the qualifiers. I submitted my application to FIFA to change my nationality and for over two years now, gladly, here am I and about to play for Ghana, he said.
Unlike AC Milans Kevin-Prince Boateng who announced his early retirement from the Stars after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the former England youth player stated that he had come to stay and will fight for his position in the team.
I am here to play for Ghana. I am not here for a short stay, I am here for a long term but before, I have to justify my talent during training sessions to thrill the manager in other to join the starting team, he said.
Meanwhile, David Accam is happy to inch closer to fulfilling his childhood dream, playing for his country, Ghana.
The 22-year-old striker, who has been a regular for Swedish side, Helsingborg now has the opportunity to show off his skills with Ghana after earning his first call up.
I was really excited when I heard my call up. This has been my dream since childhood. As a footballer you have to work hard and this is what I am here to do. There will be competition among we the strikers but I have to work extra hard to bring the best out of me, he said.
Frimpong and Accam were given their first Black Stars call-up last week when they were both included in coach Kwesi Appiahs 24-man squad ahead of Ghanas group D World Cup qualifier match against Sudan in Kumasi.
