Contrary to media reports that coach Kwesi Appiah's contract as head coach of the Black Stars expires on Nov. 16, 2013, the Black Stars head coach has stated that his current contract with the Ghana Football Association will rather expire immediately after the world cup in July, Ghana Sports can exclusively reveal.
In a telephone conversation with coach Kwesi Appiah to seek clarification as to exactly when his contract with the GFA will expire, he said, "My contract will expire after the Brazil 2014 world cup in July." He exclusively told Ghana Sports.
Appiah, a left back in his playing days, played club football with Kumasi Asante Kotoko between 1981 and 1993. He played for the Black Stars between 1987 and 1992 appearing in two FIFA World Cup qualifying matches; he also captained the team.
COACHING CAREER
Appiah was coach of Ghana U23 as they won the 2011 all Africa Games.
He was appointed manager of the Black stars in April 2012 after learning as an apprentice under Serbian Milovan Rajevac for years. Describing himself as "the underdog" in the process, he has received technical training from the staff of English club Manchester City.
