Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah has said that notwithstanding his group been described as the “group of death” in the recent FIFA draw, he insists the Black Stars are one of the favourites to qualify from Group G to the knockout stage of the 2014 World Cup.

According to him, looking at the current performance of his “boys” (players), he is very optimistic the Stars’ “will prove to Ghanaians that they are capable” of excelling in Brazil.

James Kwesi Appiah was speaking at a ceremony organized for him by Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) to honour him for being the first indigenous coach to qualify the Black Stars to a FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, soft spoken Kwesi Appiah pledged to tactically groom his players ahead of the tournament to face Germany, Portugal and USA in Group G.

“I want them (players) to defend the flag of Ghana. I can assure that we will surprise the world in Brazil,” he said.
