A section of football players in the Ghana Premier League are planning to boycott for domestic top-flight over poor remuneration, Ghanasportsonline.com can reveal.

Ghanasportsonline.com sources indicate about 50 players in Ghana’s elite division are forming a union to seek greener pastures outside the country.

The issue of player exodus in the country has become unbridled due to Club’s failure to motivate their players with decent salaries. Checks done by Ghanasportsonline.com indicate average salary of Ghana Premier League players is GH¢350 ($95) a month.

“It is sad, we have families and we have our personal needs but you will be surprise some of us take as low as GHC200 a month. Even with that we struggle with our management before getting them,” a hotshot Ghana Premier League player (name withheld) said on Atinka FM.

“As I speak about 50 players in the League are planning to boycott the upcoming season.

“We have actually formed a union to leave the League, thus to leave our respective Clubs and seek greener pastures.

“We are really struggling and we have taken that decision. We are also ready to accept any offer from a foreign Club irrespective of the country.

“So far as the offer will be better than what we take here, then we will leave.”

Many football fans have complained about the mass player exodus in the country which has made the local League unattractive.

The Ghana Premier League last season was played without a headline sponsor after Capital Bank cancelled their deal with the Ghana Football Association.
