The veteran coach says he is disappointed over the lack of attention and care from the Ghana Football Association.
Former Ghana coach Herbert Addo says he has been neglected by the football association as he currently battles an unknown ailment.
The 65-year-old has coached the Black Stars, the under-20 team as well as the under-23 side, and is also privileged to be the only coach to have won five titles with four different clubs in the local topflight.
His most recent job was at Inter Allies, with whom he parted ways in May last year.
“I was so shocked when I saw the Graphic [newspaper] on Monday on EK Afranie’s burial; [people wearing] big 'Kente', the president [of the Ghana Football Association] was even there," Addo told Starr FM.
"The likes of Osam Duodu are all gone; we could have done something better but they are all gone.
“For the past six months, I have not had any visit from the Ghana FA but for the likes of Coach Dauda Lutterodt and I was happy when I saw them.
"I am disappointed but they need to keep track of those who have served the nation, so at least they could get free medical attention."
Allies aside, Addo has been in charge of a host of top Ghanaian clubs including Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Ashanti Gold, Aduana Stars, Great Olympics and Sekondi Hasaacas.
His situation is alarming, considering the demise of four veteran coaches - Ben Koufie, EK Afranie, Fred Osam-Duodu and recently Sam Arday - in the last eight months.

i agree with you all that he worked for money and that the state is not obliged to cater for their health or old age, but,am also thinking this man needs a visit maybe, just to saw you care not necessarily money.Sometimes, when you are sick you become lonely and thinks wold but te mere seeing of people visiting you, talking and chatting with you makes you feel loved and pampered, its not always about money.
There seems to be unanimity of thoughts expressed here and the voice of the people is the voice of God.Whilst I sympathize with you and pray you get healed in the Mighty Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ I will like to chip in that it is not the duty of Ghana to cater for its retired sports heroes during old age. One exception is if you were a contributor to SSNIT in which case it is mandated to pay you monthly pension. society is aware of the hefty salaries sportsmen(in particular) and women receive during their rather short careers. You have a choice as to what you do with your money and the returns or losses are entirely your private matter.I find it embarrassing that these people behave as if the state owes them something during old age. I thing it will be beneficial to set up a fund to which they must contribute to guarantee their upkeep during retirement/invalidity/old age. It is a simple law that you cannot reap where you have not sown!
YOU HAVE WORKED WITH ALL THIS BIG CLUBS AND ALSO COACHED ALL THE NATIONAL TEAMS,WHERE YOU COACHING FOR FREE.PLEASE WOULD YOU KINDLY PUBLISHED YOUR CONTRACTS WITH THE CLUBS AND THE NATIONAL TEAMS FOR GHANAIANS TO SEE WHETHER YOU WERE SACRIFICING FOR MOTHER GHANA OR THE GFA.WHERE IS ALL THE CONTRACT MONEY YOU SIGNED.NOW THAT WE NEED MONEY FOR ONE DAM ONE VILLAGE, ONE FACTORY FOR ALL DISTRICT.I WISH YOU A SPEEDY RECOVERY.
YOU HAVE ALL SAID IT AS IT SHOULD BE. BAM
Who has neglected you? Were you not working as a coach? Who then should cater for your old age. Only in Ghana where everybody wants to be supported by the State.
When the issues of Pensions were set it is along time ago and for a 65 years old but be receiving his pension at such a time. People sometimes refuse to do the right thing when they are getting their monthly pay and come back lamenting over spilt milk when the deduction would have catered for you at this sensitive time of your life.
UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS ONLY IN GHANA THAT PEOPLE EXPECT TO BE CATERED FOR AFTER THEIR RETIREMENT. WE ALL WORK FOR MONEY, SO THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO PLAN ACCORDINGLY. BUT NO, IN GHANA, THEY EARN THE INCOME, AND SQUANDER IT FORGETTING THAT RETIREMENT LOOMS ON. THEN AFTER RETIREMENT, THEY COME ON TV AND RADIO TO SAY THEY HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT. FROM FOOTBALLERS TO MUSICIANS....GEEZ. IF EVERYONE WHO RETIRES COME BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT FOR HIS/HER RETIRMENT BENEFIT WITHOUT CONTRIBUTING TOWARDS THE FUND FOR RETIREMENT. IT'S DONE IN OTHER COUNTRIES, AND SO IT MUST BE DONE IN GHANA.
WERE YOU NOT PAID FOR ALL THE SERVICES YOU RENDERED. DID YOU LEAVE ANY MONEY AT THE GFA FOR YOUR FUTURE UPKEEP? OUR RETIRED SPORTSMEN ARE FOUND OF BLAMING THE GOVERNMENT WHENEVER THEY FALL SICK MEANWHILE THEY WERE PAID FOR ALL THEIR SERVICES. PLAN WELL AND DON'T CHOP ALL THE MONEY IN YOUR MOUTH.
Just as we appreciate their contributions towards Ghana sports, lets not forget that they worked for money. Lack of planning and poor preparation towards the future are the causes of all these blames everyday by our sportsmen. Who's not helping to develop Ghana? Teachers, Servicemen, Lawyers, Kayayes, ALL are helping. Its about time they prepare well to stop shifting blame on the Government. Our futures are in our hands, period.
