The 24-year-old talks about life with Los Rojiblancos and lining up for the Black Stars.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Teye Partey has credited coach Diego Simeone’s patience for his purple patch of form this season.

In unarguably his best campaign with Los Rojiblancos, the Ghanaian has made 15 appearances in all competitions, having started all but three matches.

Impressively, he has notched four goals too, making him the club’s current joint-top scorer of the season and the only to have netted in all three competitions – La Liga (two), Champions League (one) and Copa del Rey (one).

“Simeone allowing me time to develop was important and I had to wait for my chances,” Partey told KweseESPN.

“The manager spoke with me many times in the past to keep me involved and now I am playing more.

“He is great at motivating the players and makes it clear to us how he wants us to play and how we can continue to improve.”

Creditably, Partey’s influence transcend Atletico boundaries, having netted five goals in his last four Ghana outings.

He talks about the weight of expectations of donning the national colours.

“Of course, there is expectation because I play for Atletico.

“I am a young player and still quite new to the national team.

“I know that I just have to keep playing and improving and try to not think about the pressure.”

Partey is, however, not available for Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Egypt on Sunday as he is currently suspended for yellow cards accumulation.
