Kwesi Appiah, head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars has dismissed claims that the composition of his recent call-ups suggested he was not taking the Kenyan game serious.

“In any game that Ghana plays, it is important to win and to attach it with more seriousness. I believe Kenya has got a very good team, this is my last call up and it is important we try to get a win,” he said.

The Black Stars would host the Harambee Stars of Kenya at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, March 22 at 18:00 GMT in the last qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 in Egypt.

Both teams have already qualified for the tournament in June and the result of this game would not affect their chances except for the one who stays on top of the group.

Coach Appiah with his recent team appears to want to use the game to try out some new players, all geared towards preparing for Egypt.
His recent 24-man squad includes six debutants and six returnees.

He said the current team game would rather give him an idea of how his selection for the tournament would look like.

Speaking to the media after the team’s first training session in Accra, the former Asante Kotoko skipper said, his doors were opened to any good Ghanaian footballer and would continue to scout for the best materials available.

“I should have a rough idea of my AFCON squad after the games but you should never get to the level where you think this is my team, because they have got a lot of games in their various clubs and anything can happen within that period,” he said.

The Black Stars would play in a friendly game with Mauritania at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, March 26 after the Kenyan game.
