Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports has stated that sports is no more a luxury or for fun, but it is a huge investment, which must be devoid of cheating.

According to him, sports must be seen as a huge investment into the future and a tool for enhancing development and corporation among countries.

Mr. Asiamah, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Atwima Mponua Constituency in at opening the 6th AIPS Congress in Accra at the Accra City Hotel, where over fifty delegates from Africa have gathered to deliberate and share ideas about the way forward for Africa sports Journalist said, there was a huge responsibility on sports journalists in Africa to help change the fortune of sports in Africa.

“It is an honour to be here on behalf of the Government and Ghanaians to welcome delegates for this congress, which coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration of the sports writers association of Ghana (SWAG).

“Sports is our hope for the future and it shouldn’t be seen as a luxury but an investment into our future, being a tool for development.
“There is a huge responsibility to help change the fortunes of sports in Africa by Journalist, where the sports press must be circumspect with their reportage.

“There should be a critical look at cheating in sports, be it doping or any form unaccepted methods in sports, this congress must help to de-emphasize the ‘win at all cost’ mentality in sports and help condition the minds of athletes that, sports was a tool to creating discipline and decency,” he added.

The 6th AIPS Congress in Accra forms part of the 50th celebration of SWAG, a body that seeks to reward and honour the hard work of athletes in Ghana and beyond as well as distinguished personalities in the sports fraternity.
