Kim Clijsters continued her remarkable run at the US Open after defeating Li Na 6-2 6-4 to set up a semi-final clash with defending champion, Serena Williams.
The 26-year-old Belgian has come out of retirement to play in her first Grand Slam since the 2007 Australian Open. Li briefly rallied in the second set, but a series of errors caused her to lose the match to Clijsters.
Clijsters is expected to play Serena Williams, who defeated Italian Flavia Pennetta by 6-4 6-3 in the night session. Pennetta has been in great form and a single break in each set would be enough for her to win in 1hour 15 minutes.
With a fifth consecutive straight-set wins at Flushing Meadows, Serena Williams has confirmed her position as a strong favourite for the title. Clijsters is such a great person and I only wish the best for her, Williams emphasized.
