Konadu's Boy Detained By Police CID

There is simmering tension at the precincts of the Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service following the decision by the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to detain Director of Operations of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), Ernest Owusu Bempah, after he honoured an invitation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). Owusu Bempah was invited over his allegations that first lady Naadu Mills received five million dollars of the 51 million Ghana cedis judgment debt paid to Alfred Woyome. He was referred to the CID by the BNI for further questioning and was later remanded by the CID and is likely to spend the night in the CID cells. Reports say three lawyers were seen negotiating with CID officials for the release of Owusu Bempah. Meanwhile, angry supporters of the detained FONKAR Operations capo have besieged the police HQ protesting against his detention. The supporters have sworn to keep vigil at the police HQ precincts until their demands are met and have accused the police of arbitrary arrest saying the "rule of law" has been discarded "into the dust-bin".
