Dont Use Pulpits To Divide Nation - Dr. Tetteh

A renowned Evangelist, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has appealed to religious leaders to desist from using their pulpits to make divisive utterances as the country prepares for election 2012. He explained that over 70 per cent of the population was controlled by the religious leaders and that if they were not mindful of their utterances they could disturb the peace the country had been blessed with. Let us not try to impress political parties by making false prophecies and always bear in mind that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any person, he told the Daily Graphic in an interview. He also said Ghana risked losing its pride of place as model democratic country if people took the peace and stability they were enjoying for granted adding all the international communities, particularly the African society have their eyes fixed on Ghana. He explained that clergies who decided to abuse the platform they held with the purpose to please their congregations or members stood the chance to cause trouble and thereby disturb the peace and unity in the country. We all have the collective responsibility to safeguard the peace that the almighty God through his sheer grace and mercies has afforded us. Why must we allow the tension of elections to sway us from the common bond that we all share as Ghanaians? Dr. Tetteh, who is also the president and founder of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach based in the United Kingdom, condemned the politics of insults which he described as foreign to the culture of Ghana. Touching on the media, he urged them, particularly the radio stations, not to allow politicians whose statement could undermine the credibility of the peace in the country on their programmes. With the print, he implored them to refrain from using unguided statement issued by politicians. Dr. Tetteh, who is currently in the country on a nationwide miracle explosion, with the theme Ghana for Christ Crusade aimed at praying for the country on election 2012 said, the key to maintaining a peaceful election was through prayers and discipline. The three days crusade starts from March 22 to 24 at the Accra Sports Stadium. The purpose is to further seek the protection and directions from God on election 2012 and pray for clergies and the general public, particularly the leaders of the country, on the need to ensure peace regardless of the election results. Dr. Tetteh observed that traditional leaders, the youth, and the general public all had roles full before, during and after the elections. He, therefore, advised the youth to champion peace and unity by resisting any monetary influence from corrupt politicians stressing you are not just the future leaders but the next leaders.
