3 Schools Attend Science Conference

Three senior high schools in the Eastern Region have been taken through practical lessons in science and engineering at the Engineering Complex of the All Nations University College in Koforidua in the Eastern Region. The lessons took place during the second edition of the Pre-Collegiate Initiative Science Conference organised by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) -Ghana. The conference, which was on the theme: The importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Nation Building, brought together over 150 students from the Pope John Senior High School & Seminary, the New Juaben Senior High School and the Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS). They were taken through the rudiments of practical science and quantum physics. The Vice-President in charge of Academics and Dean of NSBE of the All Nations Chapter, Dr Charles Sagoe, elaborated the vital nature of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in a national development to the students. Dr Sagoe stressed that the roots of the tree were the natural resources and the leaves were the national development and its progress, adding that it was the stem that bound all together to ensure that was achieved. He called on the students to take the study of mathematics and science very seriously since the two subjects held the key to any national development. The Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department of All Nations University, Dr Rajan John, through a power point presentation, explained to the students how natural materials on the earth surface could be used to enhance the basics of life and in nation building. He took the students through effective usage of science laboratories. The Administrative Secretary and Chairperson of the West Africa Zone of the Pre-College Initiative (PCI), Billy James Dega, encouraged participants to seek higher education. The Head of Electronics and Communication at All Nations, Mr Eric Sackey, advised the students to dream big and be passionate about their dreams and work towards them become a reality.
