I Won't Resign - CHRAJ Boss

The Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice Lauretta Lamptey has rubbished calls for her resignation by Pressure Group Forum for Public Accountability, FOPA saying that their claims are unfounded. The Pressure Group last Wednesday held a press conference calling for the head of the Commissioner for her unwillingness to continue with the case involving Dr. Hannah Bissiw in which she is alleged to have incurred expenditure above the reasonable limit of a public officer. FOPA had earlier petitioned the Commission to investigate the Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing for the resources she used in undertaking 20 projects in her constituency Tano South. Addressing a press briefing, Madam Lauretta Lamptey said there was no need for the press conference by FOPA as the investigation into the case is on course. While we are actually doing our job, why would I resign? she asked. The specific call for resignation was about compromising the commission by having secret meetings with political persons and having the AG stay our hand when we are supposed to be independent and both of those accusations are patently untrue... "It is not that because it is the Forum for Public Accountability we suddenly expedite or accelerate or do things differently or have public hearings if we would not do it in any other situation. She asked FOPA to bear with the commission as investigations into the matter proceed appropriately.
