2 NPP Fans Crashed To Death

Two female supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oda Constituency in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region were killed on the spot by a hit-and-run taxi which ran into a group of party member undertaking a keep-fit- exercise yesterday. They were identified as Maa-Attah, 18-year-old dressmaking apprentice, and Yaa Kwakyewaa, 33-year-old farmer and mother of six children. A third person yet to be identified is reported by the police to have died later at the Oda Government hospital where 18 other supporters who sustained various degrees of injury were admitted. Confirming the incident to the Times the Oda Constituency NPP chairman, Mr. Yaw Mintah Debrah, explained that as part of the upcoming biometric registration exercise, the constituency executives decided to organize a keep-fit exercise as a means of creating awareness of the registration supposed to be held this month. He said one group of the supports started the exercise from Asuboa, a suburb of Oda at 6am to join other supporters who were waiting at Akyem Manso. The party provided four people with reflective jackets, one at the rear and the others in front to direct traffic. However, a Kia Vesta taxi with registration number GT 2401 Z ran into the group and the driver reportedly drove to the Oda Police Station where he parked the car and fled. Oda District Police Commander, Issah Contona confirmed the incident and said it was being investigated.
