NDC Blows GH5m On Rally

Just as GAME allegedly used GH90 million as campaign money for the NDC Sunyani Congress, it has emerged that last Saturdays copy-cat rally of the ruling party, lasting no more than six hours, cost another gargantuan amount. Information available to the New Statesman reveals that a budget of GH5 million was presented to the National Democratic Congress headquarters ahead of last Saturdays rally at the Mantse Agboena. According to sources at the NDC headquarters, the Greater Accra regional executives of the NDC, in their bid to out-do the rally held by the New Patriotic party at the same venue, outlined a list of activities which needed to be funded so as to make the rally successful. An amount of GH20 was to be given to every NDC supporter who wore an NDC T-shirt and made his or her way to the rally grounds. An amount of GH500,000 was said to have been budgeted for this activity, with a further GH10,000 said to have been budgeted for transportation. The distribution of T-Shirts for the rally was also an item on this budget, with sources saying the party printed in excess of 20,000 T-shirts for the event. The construction of a stage for the event; the hiring of canopies; paying of Jewel Ackah and his band as the lead entertainers for the event; and ensuring maximum security with the police, national security and private security agencies all involved in this planning of this rally. The flags and NDC paraphernalia for the programme that adorned the streets leading to Mantse Agboena also formed a part of this budget. A surprising item that was contained in the budget was an honorarium for party executives, regional and national.
