Parliament Approves Formula For Sharing Common Fund.

Parliament has approved the formula for sharing the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the Year 2012. A total amount of GHC 821,664,806 is to be shared among the Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies across the country to aid them in their developmental activities. Section 7(a) of the District Assemblies Common Fund Act 1993(ACT445) mandates the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund to propose annually for approval of Parliament a formula for sharing the Common Fund to the Districts Assemblies. Some of the issues the Administrator considered in arriving at the formula for sharing the fund include the availability of health and education facilities in a district and access to potable water as a determinant of how much money should go to that district. He also considered Assemblies approach to revenue generation outside the Common Fund allocation. The District Assemblies� Common Fund (DACF) is a pool of resources created under section 252 of the 1992 constitution of Ghana. It is a minimum of 5% of the national revenue set aside to be shared among all District Assemblies in Ghana with a formula approved by Parliament. The fund is a Development Fund which enables the use of the nation�s wealth throughout Ghana to the benefit of all citizens.
