Slim Buster Electrifies International Theatre Day Commemoration In Ghana

Slim Buster one of Ghana's top hip-life musician and electrifying Dancer on Tuesday amazed spectators at the International Theatre Day commemoration at the National Theatre with irresistible chorographic movement to his hit song Marsherita. Backed by three-man performers, Buster bounced unto the stage with energetic and rhythmic swinging of his hands, twisting the waist harmoniously with eccentric leg movement, which the crowd responded with loud applause. As the spectators were just settling down after the Slim Buster encounter, Ace comedian "Bishop" Bob Okalla, wrapped in a funny all white attire re-activated the joyous momentum in the theatre which was occasionally interrupted with speeches with new style of the Azonto dance Bobzonto. Gaining the attention of the audience, Bob Okalla recited a comic re-mixed rendition of the National Anthem in Twi which drew the last laughter out of the spectators. Ghanas celebration of the International Theatre Day was used to reflect on the important role theatre plays in social-economic development. The event is on the theme: Theatre for Development; Creating the necessary synergies between the Arts and Business. The National Dance Company then ice the theatre cake with a double dramatic drama Firestorm, and Dance excerpts of Solam. Firestone drama on gender empowerment generated mixed reaction from the audience as women decided to force and maltreat a man to perform typical domestic Ghanaian women labour. As if that was not enough the gender advocates resolved not to accept a marriage proposal from a man 10 years older; to play a lead role in domestic and national affairs and to share domestic activities with their husbands. The theatre performances were laced up with a talk on: Creating the necessary synergies between the arts and business, by Dr Kofi Amoah accomplished entrepreneur; Taking Theatre to the Communities, a case for peaceful co-existence, by Mr Akunu Dake and Developing, Promoting and Funding the performing Arts, by Mr Michael Attipoe Art Administrator. International Theatre Day was instituted in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute as a platform for various nations across the world to project the theatre and its contribution to development.
