THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy propaganda secretary for Asawase constituency in Kumasi, Yakubu Adamu, has called on the regional and the national executives of the party to do everything possible to bring the Rawlingses back into the party. �We cannot and would not win the 2012 general elections if the executives do not unite with our founder and his wife,� Yakubu Tony Aidoo, as he is affectionately known, stated. The deputy propaganda secretary continued �Mr. Rawlings is NDC and NDC is Mr. Rawlings, therefore we cannot simply do without him and his wife.� Yakubu told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that should the top hierarchy of the party fail to reconcile with the Rawlingses within a month, he would organise a massive demonstration both in the Ashanti region and beyond against the leadership. �We have pleaded and waited patiently for them to settle any scores with the founder and his wife, but it appears that they are not ready to smoke the peace pipe,� the worried deputy propaganda secretary opined. According to the deputy propaganda secretary, he and his colleague had no other option than to embark on a peaceful demonstration across the country to vent out their displeasure. Yakubu Tony Aidoo reiterated that it would be a disaster for the party to go to the polls without the founder�s participation, adding that majority of Ghanaians, particularly those in the rural areas, knew only Mr. Rawlings and not even President Mills. �We all witnessed the very important role Mr. Rawlings played in the last elections and we cannot do away with him,� he said. The deputy propaganda secretary noted that he was dismayed when the Rawlingses did not attend the just-ended rally held at the Mantse Agbona in Jamestown, saying it was a total disgrace to the leadership of the party. �We expected them to have buried any differences that might have risen after the Sunyani Congress by now, but it is sad that things have remained the same as it was before the congress,� he noted. Yakubu Tony Aidoo stated that those at the grassroots were calling on Asiedu Nketiah, Kwabena Adjei, Yaw Boateng Gyan and the rest of the national executives and elders of the party to sit up and unite the party. He further noted that those at the grassroots feared they might lose the December 7 polls if they did not get the support of the Rawlingses. �When they say everything is fine in NDC, I consider them as liars because it is obvious that all is not well with us,� he stated, tasking the leadership of the party to be honest with the true state of affairs in the party. Yakubu Tony Aidoo called on other groups in the party like the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) to join hands with the party in order to move forward. It will be recalled that Mr. and Mrs. Rawlings did not attend the party�s just-ended rally at the Mantse Agbona, thereby making room for suggestions that they might have totally fallen out with the party�s present leadership.
