Secret Attacks Hit Bawku Township

Residents of Bawku are living in a state of fear over what is believed to be secret attacks being metered out to innocent people at odd hours. A young man believed to be in his early 20s sustained cutlass wounds in Bawku Township Sunday evening for no apparent reasons, Citi News can confirm. The victim identified as Shaibu Atia is responding to treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital. An opinion leader in Bawku, Stephen Atubigah, confirmed the incident to Citi News, saying, �There have been strange attacks and just this evening a young man whose wife is admitted at the hospital on his way this evening to go see his wife was attacked and cutlassed seriously.� He added, �Three days ago the same incident happened, but not with cutlasses, that individual was attacked and beaten badly but this evening�s attack is brewing tension in the Bawku Municipality.� Questioned on whether the attacks were from the feuding Mamprusis and Kusasis, he responded, �I am trying not to push it directly to chieftaincy, but I believe people are trying to use that to make sure is one way either to disrupt the ongoing biometric registration exercise for their own interest or to destabilise the peace of the area.� The Bawku Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Seidu Adamu, also confirmed the attack and said, �There is an incident like that, but as at now I cannot give you any details, I am in town but I haven�t been able to meet the victim.� He, however, denied that the situation had heightened tension in Bawku. �There is no tension or any rising tension in Bawku, the place is calm as any other place you can think of please.�
