The Mfantseman Community Bank has set up a computer centre at Biriwa Methodist Junior High School with 10 computers at a cost of GHc22,000. The handing over of the centre to the school last Friday coincided with the school�s speech and prize-giving day. Mr George Munano, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank, said the computer centre formed part of the bank�s corporate responsibility to the community. He said the bank, having realised the important role computer literacy played in the modern education, had decided to promote teaching and learning of information communication technology (ICT) in its catchment area. �Computer literacy has become the axis on which modern education revolves,� Mr Munano said and advised students to take ICT seriously so that they did not become �illiterate scholars� in future. The Board Chairman appealed to the people of the Mfantseman Municipality and the people of Biriwa to support the bank�s gesture by donating additional computers, air-conditioners and stabilizers to the centre to help the computers to work efficiently. Mr Peter Mensah, Manager of the Bank, advised the people of the community to save with the local branch of the bank to enable it to extend its corporate services to the community. Mr John Daniel Otoo, Managing Director of Capital �O2� Pharmacy who was the guest speaker, appealed to teachers to combine knowledge acquisition with skills training and moral education to make their students whole. He said acquisition of knowledge or skills without moral values made the student found wanting in many aspects of life. Mr Otoo urged parents to regard education as the best investment they could make for their children to enable them to secure a better future. Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West and Deputy Central Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf urged students to take their studies seriously and to refrain from drugs and other social vices that could endanger their future. He donated a computer and pledged 50 bags of cement for the construction of lavatory for the school. Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the area, also pledged 10 bags of cement and some items for the school. Mr Robert Awoonor-Williams, the Headmaster, expressed gratitude to the bank for the donation.
