Reverend Jacob Kojo Wangusin, the Clerk of the Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterians Church of Ghana has urged Ghanaians to be more selective in their choice of a leader as President of the country in the 2012 elections
�Choose a leader who is wise and can lead the nation progressively�. He said Ghana has been touted as a beacon of democracy on the continent and must demonstrate this shining example by choosing leaders with exemplary qualities such as, �wise counselors and not serial callers and abusers�.
Rev. Wangusin, who was speaking in Tamale on Monday during the annual retreat of the Christian Children�s Fund of Canada (CCFC), said it was only wise leaders with humility, magnanimity and integrity who could bring progress to the nation.
The retreat was under the theme; �Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors, there is victory�, and brought together programme coordinators, partners and staff of the NGO to worship and deliberate on the way forward in serving society.
The CCFC is a Christian international Non-governmental Organization operating in some countries around the globe and in Ghana. It operates mostly in the Northern part of the country, working to improve the standard of living for children.
Rev. Wangusin used the occasion to commend the Vice President Mr. John Dramani Mahama, saying that the Veep demonstrated good leadership qualities when he acknowledged the role of former President Rawlings and the current president in his life, when presented with honourary doctoral award in Nigeria recently.
He said good leaders have good vision, well disciplined and creative, stressing that, every organization or nation needs good leaders to survive, adding that, �In abundance of good leaders, a nation strides�.
Madam Sanaatu Nantogma, Country Director of the CCFC commended the staff and partners of the NGO, who she said had demonstrated commitment to their jobs through innovation that has enhanced performance.
She said the organization last year formulated a six-year strategic plan that would soon be implemented to give more meaning to the lives of people, especially, needy children, saying that, though there were more challenges in their work, there were surmountable.
Six awards went to some partners and individuals, who were outstanding in their performance, in the areas of sponsorship, programmes, finance, communications and grants.
