Biometric Registration Phase 2: IGP Meets EC

The Inspector General of Police Paul Tawiah Quaye will, on Tuesday morning, meet officials of the Electoral Commission. Acting Police Public Affairs Director Cephars Arthur told XYZ News the meeting will ostensibly discuss issues concerning the biometric registration exercise and the way forward. The first phase of the biometric registration exercise ended on Monday. With the next phase expected to begin on Wednesday, it is expected that security at the registration centres will be high on the agenda. There have been complaints of inadequate security at the registration centres across the country with some areas experiences skirmishes resulting from misunderstandings. Meanwhile the police administrations communication team will also embark on a pre-Easter outreach to sensitize the travelling public on the need to be cautious during the festive season. DSP Cephars Arthur says areas such as the Neoplan Station near the Kwame Nkrumah circle, the Achimota Station and the Tema stations have been targeted for the outreach. He said the exercise will offer the police an opportunity to interact with both drivers and passengers and to make them aware of the potential dangers associated with reckless road use and lifestyles.
