Gov't Assures Of Better Times In Electricity Supply

The Minister for Energy, Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei, has assured Ghanaians that government is working tirelessly to prevent the recent power outages that hit the nation. Few days ago, the Minister received a report about whether the power outages were orchestrated by people who wanted to sabotage the government. But the report proved otherwise. Dr. Oteng-Adjei says government is upgrading the various substations at Achimota and Mallam to curtail the incessant cuts in power supply. We have upgraded the Mallam substation with two more transformers thereby giving us excess capacity and we believe that by the end of May, that project will be concluded. At the moment there are two main substations serving Greater Accra and its environs. These are located in Mallam and Achimota. The minister said a third bulk supply point at Adjirigano is being built to serve the Eastern part of Greater Accra so as to ease the pressure on the existing two. Meanwhile. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will not intensify the current load shedding exercise as had been announced earlier. The company told Joy FM that contrary to fears that the situation may worsen, there has rather been an improvement after the it undertook a planned review.
