A senior research fellow with the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), Dr. Kwesi Jonah, has reiterated the need for the Ghana Police Service to be insulated from political interference.
He was commenting on the NPP�s call for the IGP, Paul Tawiah Quaye, to resign based on the continuous violence associated with the ongoing biometric registration exercise.
Dr. Jonah said the NPP�s position is not surprising as the general thinking is that the law enforcement service is always in bed with a ruling party.
�As far as I am concerned, whenever a party is in opposition, there is the tendency to think that the security agencies are in collusion with the government of the day,� he said.
Dr. Jonah said it was important, regardless of what political party was in power, to ensure that the police were properly disentangled from all political issues, which would in turn allow them discharge their duties smoothly.
