No Constituency Is A No Go Area; Prof. Ocquaye Tells Nii Lantey

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the assault on its Ablekuma South parliamentary candidate, Ursula Owusu. Madam Ursula Owusu and Abu Jinapor, an aide to Nana Akufo-Addo, were allegedly assaulted during a tour to some registration centres in the Odododiodoo Constituency on Wednesday. The incident happened at a registration centre known as Tarzan in the constituency. She alleged some heavily built men with broken bottles assaulted them leaving her injured. Addressing a news conference on Thursday morning, the NPPs Dome Kwabenya MP, Prof. Mike Ocquaye accused the police of doing little to stop the attacks on NPP supporters. Madam Ursula Owusu who has been educating market women and hawkers to go and register to exercise their rights to vote together with Abu Jinapor and Perpetual Asante, three of them only, unarmed were attacked and she was particularly beaten. He accused the police of failing to provide Madam Owusu with the needed help when she tried to run for shelter after the attack. He is therefore calling on the police to investigate the matter and call the policemen to order. Prof. Mike Ocquaye also took a swipe at the NDCs candidate for Odododiodoo, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, accusing him of fomenting trouble in the area. These shameful events are happening because the NDC candidate for Odododiodoo has declared this place a no go area for the people he perceives as political opponents. He said no individual or ethnic group has monopoly over a particular area and therefore such actions should be condemned. Prof. Mike Ocquaye and his entourage are said to be heading towards the Kantamanto market where the incident occurred on Wednesday. It is not clear what the motive is but Madam Owusu swore to return to the area today and dared anyone to launch an attack on her again.
