Outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon Kennedy Agyapong, is likely to spend the night in the custody of the security agencies after being whisked away to an unknown destination. He was carted away in a police vehicle with license number GP 2619. Strong signals picked however indicate that the Assin North MP has been taken to the BNI Headquarters for further interrogation. Hundreds of NPP faithfuls besieged the Police Headquarters in Accra demanding the release of the lawmaker amidst chanting war songs. A few minutes after 7pm, the police resorted to the firing of tear-gas formally known as a lachrymatory agent or lachrymator and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Peace-Fm's Yaw Obeng Manu, who reported live from the Police Headquarters, was a victim of the tear-gas incident as he occasionally had to halt his report to catch his breath or get his bearings right after being blinded by the non-lethal chemical weapon which stimulated the corneal nerves in the eyes to cause tears and pain.
