New Black Stars Coach Aims At Grassroots Development

New Black Stars coach Akwasi Appiah will be looking to help develop Ghana football at the grassroots level. The ex Black Stars captain has been handed a two-year renewable contract to lead Ghana to Nations Cup triumph in 2013 and a semi final berth at the 2014 World Cup. Though impressed with the standard of play in the top flight, Appiah insists it is at the grassroots level that Ghana would draw its biggest success if well structured and aims to devote a lot of his time towards this. I have visited almost all the league centers with the exception of Tarkwa and I have been very impressed with what I have seen, he said. I believe the standard has risen but I think concentration should be on the colts to know the way we play which involves putting the ball down on the ground and knowing the proper system before they get to the national level. Appiahs immediate task is to guide the Black Stars through two tough 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambia in June.
