The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Professor (Emeritus) Oti Boateng, has called on all Ghanaians to ensure that peace prevails in the country. He said peace was a non-negotiable basic requirement for any country�s development and must, therefore, not be toyed with or taken for granted. Daasebre Oti Boateng made these remarks at a thanksgiving service at the Koforidua Wesley Cathedral following his return from a United Nations assignment in war-torn Afghanistan. The Omanhene told the congregation that what he saw in Afghanistan was an eye-opener, noting that the Asian country was presently devastated as a result of decades of incessant warfare and warned Ghanaians not to do anything that would plunge the country into chaos. Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is also the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, took the opportunity to caution all New Juaben citizens and residents to refrain from cheating in the ongoing national biometric voters registration exercise, which is the basis for conducting both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country next year. He emphasised that cheating, such as double registration, was a criminal offence and was bound to be detected by the computer system �since God has given a unique and different fingerprint to every person living under the sun which helps us to prevent such cheating�. The Omanhene presented a thanksgiving donation of GH�500.00 to the church in addition to five computers worth GH�2,500.00, in fulfillment of an earlier pledge he made to the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, the Most Rev. Emmanuel Asante. The Right Rev. Frederic Nnuroh, Bishop of the Methodist Church, Koforidua, while thanking the Omanhene for his donation to the church, also associated himself with the sentiments expressed by Daasebre. He called on Ghanaians to remain upright in these turbulent times and get closer to God in order to maintain the unity of the nation.
