Trader Jailed Nine Years For Stealing

A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a trader to nine years imprisonment for burglary. Baba Abu Abubakari broke into the room of a driver at Lobito in Kumasi and made away with one iPod, four cellular phones and cash of GH100.00. He pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that the crime was committed on April 15 and that the complainant, Goeffrey Sadazo, on Sunday at about 2100 hours, left the door to his room unlocked as he joined his friend in another room to watch television. He said being tired, he fell asleep and woke up the next morning at about 0500 hours and returned to his room only to find to his shock that it had been ransacked with his iPod, cellular phones and cash stolen. He said Mr Sadazo reported the case to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Abubakar and the items were later retrieved from him. The convict admitted the crime in his caution statement.
