EC Has No Excuse For Biometric Voter Registration Challenges - Ras Mubarak

Mr Ras Mubarak, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for the Ablekuma North, on Friday appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to step up efforts in dealing with problems in the biometric voter registration exercise. He said: the EC should be up and doing to address the challenges faced in the registration process as they have no excuse to give Ghanaians for failure to collate credible data. Mr Mubarak told the GNA in an interview that although registration in the Ablekuma North constituency had so far been peaceful, there were some pockets of challenges which needed urgent attention. He said although he had petitioned the EC on these challenges, there had been no response, adding that the rule from the EC to keep registration officials at some centres for 40 days would not help speed up the process. Mr Mubarak said it would be better for politicians to deal with substantive issues that would improve the lives of the masses and not propaganda that would end up deceiving the people. He said although the people of Ablekuma North had cast their votes for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the past 16 years, he believed he could make a change in the constituencys political history. Mr Mubarak said the people of Ablekuma North needed a change as their votes for the NPP in the past 16 years have not yielded any positive development in the area, our people have not experience any improved living conditions under the NPP. He said the constituency is one of the flood prone areas in Accra, hence the need for residents to cast their vote for him to use his office to lobby for the construction of better roads and drainages. Mr Mubarak added that he would use his position to empower the youth, assist in educating them and involve them in decision making because they had been margilised for long.
