Kennedy Mobbed!

All activities came to a halt at Assin Fosu in the Assin North District of the Central Region last Saturday when Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for the area, arrived in the constituency to thank his people for their support when he had a brush with the law. I have many businesses, and if I stop politics today, I can cater for my family. But my concern is for the youth who are the future leaders of this country. I am not ready for war and even if somebody should attempt to slap me, I will run away so dont interpret my comment wrongly, Mr Agyapong said to the welcoming crowd of enthusiastic young men and women in Assin Fosu on Saturday. It would be recalled that the firebrand NPP MP was arrested on Monday April 16 and charged with the crimes of attempted genocide, treason felony and terrorism, before an Accra Fast Track court. But he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Mr Agyapong, who got to Assin Fosu barrier around 10:00am, spent nearly three hours passing through a thick crowd of supporters and a long convoy of vehicles before getting to the Fosu Township. It took the intervention of the police to pave way for him to sneak through his enthusiastic followers by blowing sirens to get into the township. Mr Agyapong was driven in an open-top Lincoln Navigator and dressed in an all-white apparel while he waved to the joyous crowd. Even people at funerals abandoned dead bodies just to catch a glimpse of him. Addressing the crowd at the Old Court at Assin Fosu, Mr Agyapong proclaimed that he would always stand for the truth. According to him, although he had money to protect his family, he would abandon the luxury of enjoying his wealth alone in peace and quiet, and rather fight for the Ghanaian youth, stressing that was why he was always ready to tell the truth. There is no need to use any intemperate language whenever you are speaking to anyone an adult or a child. It is more profitable to speak in decent language when communicating, Mr Agyapong told the teeming crowd. He kept hammering on the need for his followers and Ghanaians in general to adhere to the use of temperate language in order to maintain the enviable peace Ghana was currently enjoying. He urged the youth not to use what happened to him as an excuse to cause confusion in Ghana ahead of the December elections. What I saw at the court proves that Ghanaians love me. Im admonishing you today not to use me as a tool to engage in any violent act. The battle is the Lords and He has done it already for us. He commended Muslims, Christians, sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other loved ones who stood with him when he was arrested. In attendance were the regional executives of the party, the Assin South MP, Prof Dominic Fobih and the former Central Regional Minister, Isaac Edumadze among others. It would be recalled that DAILY GUIDE published a story last week with the headline, Tension Hits Central Region Over Kennedys Arrest, where people who heard of the MPs arrest in the region called for his immediate release to avoid chaos since the country was in an election year. Many people who commented on the issue in an interview with DAILY GUIDE stated that the development was worrying and only went to heighten the political tension in the country. DAILY GUIDE gathered that residents of Assin Fosu earlier embarked on a massive demonstration in the town to register their displeasure about the arrest of their MP. The irate youth, wearing red bands and chanting war songs, blocked the main road with tyres and sticks to prevent others from using the road amidst weeping. Sources said it took the intervention of the Assin Fosu District Police command to restore peace in the area.
