Mass Unaccredited Tertiary Institutions Bother NUGS

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) says it is alarmed at the huge number of colleges and institutes that have sprung up and operating in the country without accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (NAB). The Union said numerous students have fallen prey to these institutions and ended up disappointed after having wasted their money and time. These institutions/colleges that run courses in Oil and Gas Management, Bsc Administration and Agricultural Engineering among others are duping innocent students and casting a slur on our educational system by emphasizing on quantity rather than quality, NUGS stated in a release issued on Monday. They pick students without consideration to the poor grades that must be bettered thereby weakening the effort of the National Accreditation Board (NAB) which gave the directive that students with D, D7 and E8 must not be admitted till they are bettered, the students body observed. NUGS is therefore calling on the National Accreditation Board to rise up to the occasion since the educational system is being inundated by colleges/institutes without the needed documents to operate and if possible published the colleges/institutes in this country with accreditation. The statement also called on the Ministry of Education (MOE) and its supervising affiliates to wake up and protect students who are getting disillusioned by the operations of these colleges/institutes. NUGS further cautioned students especially those who urgently want to pursue higher education to look out for schools with the required documents to operate and run certain courses.
