Articulated Truck Topples At Cape Coast

An articulated track fully loaded with building materials last Friday turned over under a traffic light at Pedu, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region when the driver lost control of the steering wheel. The track with registration number GR 5672 10 travelling from Accra to Nzema in the Western Region ostensibly to deliver the materials reportedly turned over when the driver realizing that he has lost control of the vehicle tried to avoid crushing into other vehicles. According to the drivers mate who gave his name as K.B, there were four occupants in the car who escaped unhurt. He narrated he could not fathom what could have caused the accident which occurred around 10:00 am. According to K.B, the track was in perfect shape when they set off from Accra, adding they have been travelling frequently with the track and have never encountered such mechanic faults. This reporter observed that the accident had created heavy vehicular traffic on that stretch of road with some of the building materials scattered across the street. Personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) were however on hand to remedy the situation. Other eye witnesses who spoke to the paper conceded that the driver tried his best not to collide with any vehicle with his mate signaling approaching cars to pave way for the out of control track. They indicated that the articulated track veered off its lane in the process and in an attempt by the driver to head the right way, the weight of the car resulted in the track capsizing. Meanwhile, the driver of the articulated track whose name was not readily available was reported to have been at the Central Regional MTTU office apparently to help with investigations into the accident.
