The chiefs, numbering about 20, were members of a group known as the Royals for Peace and Development, and the meeting was to among other things, establish the root cause of the simmering tension between the Rawlingses and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Led by Togbe Adela Adelakoe II, the closed-door meeting lasted well over four hours, according to peacefmonline sources. Present at the meeting were suspended NDC Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Adams, Lower Manya Krobo NDC MP, Michael Teye Nyaunu, former NDC General Secretary, Dr. Josiah Aryeh and Madam Sylvia Awornu of the 31st December Women's Movement. Later in an interview with the media, spokesperson for the group, Togbe Hotormaho Amedzake III said: Our motive of coming here is to visit Chairman Rawlings and his wife and his household and find out how they are faring. Secondly, there is this issue of bad blood between him and some of his working colleagues, whether now or former and so we want to find out from him to what extent has this gotten to so that we can inform ourselves and know the way forward, he said.
