The office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has denied calling for the expulsion of the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia from the party. Former President Rawlings at a meeting with some chiefs from the Volta region is alleged to have said Mr. Nketia be sacked from the party if the NDC intends to retain power come the December polls. This is one of the many demands allegedly raised by the founder of the party during the said meeting aimed at resolving the dispute between him and President John Evans Atta Mills. These words were disclosed by a close ally to the Rawlingses and MP for Lower Manya, Michael Teye Nyaunu, who was at the meeting. Denying the allegations, Mr. Kofi Adams, an aide to the Rawlingses told Citi News: �At the time former President Rawlings spoke and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings spoke [at the meeting], I sat through all and even went further to record the speeches of these two persons which I have and I have taken the trouble to listen and they did not waste their time on those petty issue.� He added: �There are very serious issues that are bothering them on the issues of values and principles that we�ve lost, there are matters that concern them so much that they talked about, but they did not spend their time on such pedestrian issues.� �I just want to state clearly that if even that was discussed and mentioned by any other persons, maybe Honourable Nyaunu is trying to sum the issues that were raised there under the auspices of the founder and former President because it was him the chiefs called on, but not to say that these were terms and conditions that he put there. �He never even put any conditions. What he said was that he wished and loved that the NDC win the elections in 2012 but then this chance has been messed up by actions and inactions of executives in government and also in the party,� Mr. Adams stated.
