A project to monitor the abuse of incumbency and political corruption in the December 7th 2012 elections has been launched in Accra. The project, which begins on 1st May to 30th November 2012, will cover manifestations of abuse of incumbency and acts of political corruption in election 2012. These include turning public functions into campaign events, use of state-owned vehicles for individual partisan campaigns and use of official hours to promote partisan interest among others. The monitoring project is being undertaken jointly by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana). In his address, the Executive Secretary of the GII, Mr. Vitus Azeem, said the monitoring project will serve as an early warning mechanism to promote transparent, free, fair and peaceful election in the country. On her part, the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Mrs. Florence Dennis, said findings of the monitoring project will be made known promptly to electoral stakeholders and the public for action to be taken.
