The Head of the Communications Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur and the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Tuffour, seem to be in the dark on the latest development with regards to the Yendi-bound cache of arms that was intercepted by the Police in the Northern Region. In a telephone interview with this paper yesterday, DSP Cephas Arthur in response to a question about the latest development on the case said, �Frankly I do not have anything new on this matter but you can call the Northern Regional Commander and I am sure he would have something on it�. When this paper followed up with a call to the Northern Regional Commander for the latest information on the case, he also revealed that: �I cannot give you any information on the case since I have not been in the office for the past three days because of the weekend.� He however assured this paper that he would be able to divulge any information on the case today, after he had been to the office. Meanwhile, there is a growing suspicion amongst interested parties to the effect that some prominent personalities of the Andani Gate and the Government are covertly and overtly scheming to stall further investigations into the case. It would be recalled that under the headline, �Police Impound Arms In Yendi� this paper reported that, �The Northern Regional Police command yesterday (April 25, 2012) intercepted and impounded a BMW saloon car with registration number AS 5717 X, which was transporting loads of arms and ammunitions into the Yendi Municipality after a hot chase�. A reliable source close to the scene told The New Crusading GUIDE that the Police stopped the vehicle for a routine check at a barrier, but the driver and the other occupants in the vehicle refused to stop and sped off, prompting the Police to pursue the car which was later abandoned in a bush. The source stated that the Police took the abandoned car to the station and upon inspection discovered that the BMW saloon car was stuffed with 20 AK 47 assault rifles and large quantity of bullets. This paper�s source, who preferred to be called �Nash� said that rumours were rife within the Yendi Municipality about a looming tension between the Andanis and the Abudus in relation to an alleged radio announcement on Monday to summon all the Andanis to the Gbewaa Palace for an emergency meeting. �Nash� said, the motive behind the summon was not readily known, but �there is every reason to believe that the chief who summoned the meeting at his palace was obviously beating war drums, because there was tension in the town after the radio announcement about the said meeting.� He said, the Police have however not been forthcoming with the details on the interception, saying information gathered so far indicated that the impounded car belonged to a key political figure in the municipality. But the Police in a subsequent publication by this paper on Monday, April 30, 2012, denied this paper�s earlier publication which put the number of AK47s intercepted at twenty and stated that they only intercepted one AK47 assault rifle.
