6 Industries To Begin Operations In Ghana - Hanna Tetteh

About six brand-new manufacturing companies will start operating in the country this year. That is according to the Minister for Trade and Industry Hannah Tetteh. According to Ms. Tetteh, the presence of these factories calls for improvement from the agriculture sector to feed these manufacturing firms. Olam Ghana Limited has already set up a wheat mill processing factory at Kpone near Tema and Miss Tetteh explained to XYZ BUSINESS that it is important to build a framework to sustain raw materials for industry. It is important to create the frameworks that allow us to build up the volumes in terms of the production of raw materials that will sustain industrial growth. She said it is however critical to have the raw material available to feed the industry and that this must be done within to create more jobs for people within. Last week, the Association of Ghana Industries reiterated that Ghana has no excuse for not industrializing the economy. AGI President Nana Owusu Afari said political parties have ignored the core issue affecting the economy, hence the slow pace at industrializing Ghana. But the Minister of Trade says there is a policy in place to industrialize Ghana. She said the Ghana Industrial Policy will be used as a platform for transforming the way trade is conducted in the country. She said the ministry is working with industry players such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Ghana industries to fine-tune the implementation of the Industrial Sector Support Programme. Ms. Tetteh noted that when you are talking about transforming a country from by and large a commodity exporter to a country that does more value addition, the kind of investments that is required to make that happen doesnt happen in six months.
