Volta Chiefs: Nana Addo Gave Us GHS10,000 But...

The Vice President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Soglo has admitted that the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave the chiefs some money but denies it was meant to bribe them. Last week, Nana Addo met chiefs and queen-mothers of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs at a meeting in Ho. The House is headed by the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV. Other members present at the meeting were Nana Soglo Alloh IV, Vice President of the House, Togbe Delume VII Fiaga of Ve, Togbe Gabusu VI Fiaga of Gbi, Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra I, Paramount Queenmother of Peki and Mamaga Agbalisi IV, Queen of Akpini, Kpando, among many others. A group called the Generational Youth Movement has alleged that the Herald Newspaper under the signature of Larry Dogbe, a son of the area, has made a very damming statement about these chiefs when he claimed the chiefs took GHS10,000 and some few drinks as bribes so that they will not take a swipe at Nana Addo. According to him, this was made known to him by the secretary of the Regional House of Chiefs. In an interview with Radio XYZ 93.1 FM, the Vice President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs Nana Soglo said Nana Addo gave them money but he would not call it a bribe. If you look at the calibre of chiefs that are in the house, I doubt it very much if Nana Addo can afford to give us those bribes, he said. According to him, apart from the cash, Nana Akufo-Addo game the chiefs three cartons of Schnapps, an unspecified cartons of beer, Guinness and soft drinks to support their work in the region. Nana Soglo added if it was a bribe, we would not have announced it and we would [not] even take it in public. The money was announced and we told the whole world that the money will go into the coffers of the National House of Chiefs. But the editor of the Herald newspaper Larry Dogbe, in a reaction said his paper never published any claims that Nana Akufo Addo bribed the Volta chiefs.
