KMA Gets World Banks Recognition

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA has been selected as the best well-managed metropolis in the country by World Bank and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, MLGRD. In view of this, the World Bank is awarding the Assembly a grant of US$4.2million under its Urban Development Grant (UDG) package. Some of the criteria the World Bank and the MLGRD used in the selection process included effective waste-management, performance of members of staff, compliance with procurement laws, and effective Internal Revenue Generation. These and more were contained in a press statement issued and signed on behalf of the Mayor by Mr. Clement Kegeri, Public Relations Officer to the Mayor of KMA, Samuel Sarpong. According to the statement, KMA was the only metropolitan assembly to qualify under the Functional Organisation Assessment Tool (FOAT) assessment in 2009, the exercise that evaluates the performance of MMDAs before granting them access to District Development Fund (DDF): KMA has qualified for the fund since 2009 on yearly basis. The Kumasi Metropolis has also been selected as one of the four cities in the country to benefit from the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Programme [GUMPP]. Sekondi-Takoradi, Ho, Tamale and Kumasi were the cities selected to benefit from a forty (40) million euro concessionary loan from the French government. These cities were selected based on their outstanding performance.
