Mosquito Bites Konadu Rawlings

THE GENERAL SECRETARY of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has rubbished former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlingss letter demanding the NDC logo, saying that the letter doesnt make sense. Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi yesterday, the NDC scribe, affectionately called General Mosquito, confirmed the NDC had received a letter from Nana Konadu but maintained the letters content was not that important, directing the wife of the NDC founder to the Electoral Commission if she had any problem with the umbrella logo. Nana Konadu, wife of NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings, stunned political observers on Thursday by openly claiming ownership of the NDC emblem of red, green, white and black umbrella with the head of an eagle on its top. She noted in her letter that the denigration of the logo had been manifested in disrespect for the founder, the disunity of the party and lack of accountability by key party leaders to its members. She therefore threatened to withdraw her permission for the use of the logo by the party if steps were not taken to end the continuous infringement of her exclusive property. Commenting on the letter, General Mosquito said the party had taken delivery of the Konadu letter, saying that the piece did not contain any important message. He entreated the party faithful to treat the matter with the contempt it deserved and rather concentrate on the NDCs grand agenda of campaigning rigorously to retain political power later this year. Dont panic, stay calm, the NDC General Secretary told the teeming followers of the party across the country, stressing that they should not let the Nana Konadu letter divert their attention from the partys ultimate goal this year. According to General Mosquito, who was not ready to disclose the full details of the letter, Nana Konadu further said in her piece that she registered the NDC logo in her name in 2010. Mr. Asiedu-Nketia claimed Nana Konadu had no case in matter and said, The NDC has been using the logo and colours since 1992 but she is now claiming ownership of it. He stated that as far as he was concerned, the NDC, as a political party, did not have any issues to settle with Nana Konadu. The NDC, Mr. Asiedu-Nketia stated, was duly registered as a political party with the umbrella as its official logo at the EC so Nana Konadu should go to the EC rather for the logo and not the NDC. He said since the ruling political party had so far not received any letter from the EC, the official body in charge of political parties in the country, over the NDC logo, the party had no cause to be afraid. General Mosquito emphasised that the NDC as a political party is not bothered a bit by the Nana Konadu threat. Asked whether Nana Konadu could indeed claim ownership of the logo by all means, General Mosquito stated that taking the NDC logo from the party is not possible just as you cannot turn a female into a male. He however said that the NDC hierarchy would soon sit on the Nana Konadu matter.
