Abedi Pele: Time For Local Coaches

Ghana legend Abedi Pele says the decision to hand the Black Stars job to an indigenous coach has been long overdue. The Ghana FA appointed Akwasi Appiah as the substantive replacement for Serb Goran Stevanovic in April. The decision has been hailed by many including the three-time African Best Player who says its about time local coaches are regarded in high esteem. Its fantastic, its a good idea that they have chosen a local man, Pele said. Its welcome news for local coaches. You have the people here and you go for others from elsewhere. Its a good decision. Appiah will play his first official game when the Black Stars face Lesotho in their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kumasi on June 1. The team will then travel to play reigning African champions Zambia on June 9.
