Managing Editor of the Dispatch Newspaper and host of Ephson�s File on Radio XYZ 93.1 FM, Ben Ephson Jnr, has stated that he will be surprised if any court in the country places an injunction on the use of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) logo, which ownership is being claimed by the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. Earlier this month, Mrs. Rawlings threatened to withdraw or forbid the use of the logo of the NDC if what she described as the disregard and the abuse of values enshrined in the logo and the party�s constitution continues. A letter written by her solicitors and addressed to the National Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, clearly stated that �as you may be aware, our client holds the copyright to the political party logo being used by the NDC party as its registered political party symbol and known as the �akatamanso� (umbrella).� But commenting on the controversy on the maiden edition of the Ephson�s File on Tuesday, Mr Ephson stated that �I believe that if Nana Konadu had consulted Rawlings, he would have reminded her that in 2002 at the funeral of Kojo Mahama Adam, he (Mr. Rawlings) said he (the deceased) was among those who brought about the umbrella.� According to Mr. Ephson, merely registering a logo does not confer ownership on an individual and that �the courts will take a number of things into consideration: One, they will see clearly, that it is for mischief.� He revealed that the NDC registered the logo with the Electoral Commission in 1992 when multiparty democracy was reintroduced into Ghana�s body politick. �So I will be surprised if any court will grant the injunction, because if the injunction is granted, for example, and she loses the court case as to ownership, there would have been irreparable harm to the NDC.� Mr. Ephson averred that �it�s like 4-5 of us contributing money to buy a football and we divide ourselves into five teams and [one person�s] team loses and he says that Ntwaa don (to wits �I won�t play any longer�).�
