The Kasoa District Police in the Central Region have arrested three persons believed to be the armed robbers who recently robbed and raped a couple at Akweley Peace Town in the sprawling community. Their names were given as Abu Ali aka Ayi; Sefa aka Surveyor and Mahmudu, all in their 30s. The robbers had trailed the couple from the Central Business District of Accra to their home at Kasoa, where they pounced on them and gang-raped the pregnant wife. The three robbers raped the 29-year-old lady in turns right under the watch of her husband. They dispossessed the couple of their money and other belongings before bolting with their car. They however abandoned the vehicle at Ofankor New Town. Abu was arrested last Saturday dawn after successfully robbing a Pharmacy at Amanfrom near Kasoa with his gang the previous Friday night but, unfortunately for them, a resident who knew him and where he stayed gave the police a tip-off, leading to his arrest. He was in possession of a locally manufactured pistol but gave it to his wife to hide in her panties which the police retrieved later during a search. However, the other two gang members were arrested yesterday morning in a room at Kasoa CP, upon another tip-off after they had just arrived from operations. They had in their possession brand new laptops, Indian hemp and weapons. The robbers struck last Wednesday, at 8:30pm, immediately the couple alighted from their vehicle from town, with locally manufactured pistols and a machete. They attacked them and robbed them of GH2000 and other valuables after which they raped the wife. Meanwhile, at an identification parade at the Kasoa Police Station yesterday morning, involving three other armed robbers who were also arrested on Sunday dawn, some victims of robbery and stealing cases including the couple and the owner of Dominion Pharmacy at Amanfrom Kasoa, were able to identify the hoodlums. An old lady who was also robbed and stripped by Abu and his team last week Sunday also identified her attackers. The District Police Commander, E. Asare, said his outfit had intensified patrols to combat senseless criminals who, in recent days, had intended to harass the people of Kasoa and other areas.
